We had done it! We had finished our 48 state tour, and we were home! We unpacked, and took a couple of photos and called it a day. I took my envelope to Advantage and had them mail a card. So, I should get a postmark from each and every state.

What an adventure! We're proud of having accomplished it. Having wanted to do it for so long, it was a goal at last attained, and we gained some very valuable experience with weather and IFR flying. And it was nice to have a good partner along. Extra eyes, ears, and brains are great to have on board. It would have been nice to have seen more of the ground along the east coast, but there will be other days on other trips. In the end we both admitted that we had a blast!

All 48 states! And success!

We were also reminded a few key lessons during this adventure:

  • Always, always have all the charts that you're going to need. (The whole East Coast)
  • Always, always have an out in case things turn against you. (Panola County Airport in Mississippi)
  • You can trust the 'System'. It works, and you can negotiate within it.
  • And maybe most importantly, there are interesting and wonderful people where ever you go. Just say, "Hello!"

Flying is a tremendously rewarding activity, with entertainment value as well as being able to fill our gotta-get-from-here-to-there transportation needs. The combination of both is what generates the attraction for us, and we recommend it to anyone that may be curious. Check out AOPA and MAPA to learn more about personal flying and aircraft. Another interstesting group, which supports a wide range of special activities in aviation, is the EAA. They host the world's largest aviation get-together every year in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

We enjoyed having you along on our adventure! And, oh yeah, in the end we received every one of our 48 envelopes! (Thanks to all who helped!)
