AOPA - Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association
A non-profit organization that promotes the interests of pilots and aircraft owners, and aviation in general to the non-flying public. It is a great resource of information for pilots and those interested in aviation. See also EAA, MAPA.

Biltmore Estate - Day 7
Wow! The most extensive private house ever built in the United States. Now available for the public to experience, it is still operated by the decendants of George Washington Vanderbilt. See also Asheville.

Chicago, Illinois - Day 14

Cliff Walk - Day 11
A relatively long stroll along the shore of the Atlantic, with views into the rear of some of Newport's most beautiful houses. Be sure to wear appropriate shoes! See also Newport Mansions, Newport.
DeLorme
A developer of several very useful and unique computer mapping and tracking software packages. One, StreetAtlasUSA, coupled with a GPS reciever can show your position and movement on a street map.
EAA - Experimental Aircraft Association
A non-profit organization that supports many special aviation activities such as home-built construction and flying, restoration of warbirds and antique aircraft, and promoting aviation to young people. See also AOPA, MAPA.
First Flight - Day 10
The very spot of the first successful powered flight at Kill Devil Hill, hosted by the National Parks Service. See also Kitty Hawk.
Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation - Day 14
This organization does terrific work preserving several architectural works by Frank Lloyd Wright, along with managing the extensive archives of this trend-setting American architect. See also Chicago.
Hampton Inns
Yes, a blatant plug. We used Hampton's a lot on this adventure, and they always came through with affordable, clean and comfortable rooms, along with a light breakfast in the morning.
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina - Day 10
Visit the area surrounding the location of the first successful powered flight. See also First Flight.
MAPA - Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association
Similar to AOPA, a non-profit organization that promotes the interests of Mooney pilots and aircraft owners. With a monthly magazine, MAPA communicates useful and timely information to Mooney aircraft users. See also AOPA, EAA, Mooney Aircraft.
Monmouth Plantation - Day 2, 3
The beautiful and historic house where we stayed in Natchez, Mississippi. Not only did we find our quarters to be very nice, but the dinner company also proved to be to our liking. See also Natchez.
Monticello - Day 9
Fortunately, the beloved home of Thomas Jefferson has been restored and is open to the public. Situated as it is on the 'little mount' it is easy to see why Jefferson loved it so much, the surrounding vistas are beautiful. See also Charlottesville.
Mooney Aircraft
The manufacturer of the plane we flew. Ours is a 1993 MSE (type designation: M20J) with 200 hp and room for four. See also AOPA, EAA, MAPA.
Naperville, Illinois - Day 14

Newport, Rhode Island - Day 11

Newport Mansions - Day 11
Visit the ‘summer cottages' of turn-of-the-century New York's most wealthy families. You'll see some very impressive architecture along with sumptuous interiors. See also Cliff Walk, Newport.
Richmond Hill Inn - Day 7
A very nice B & B in Asheville where we had an excellent dinner meal at Gabrielle's, along with very good entertainment, and then a very sound night's rest. See also Asheville.
University of Virginia - Day 8
The institution established by Jefferson with the idea of free access for everyone to any and every subject. The central 'academic village' with the pantheonic library at it's head was all designed by Jefferson. See also Charlottesville.
