Description

This is a serial printing terminal that connects to a host CPU using a 20ma circuit. This machine is set up for passive transmit and passive receive.

Cleanup

22-Sep-2006

Overall the unit isn't very dirty. Dusty from just sitting around, but not at all grimy. First, I vacuumed the exterior surfaces, then the lifted the top lid, and vacuumed what I could reach inside the paper handling area. I used Windex to clean every surface that I could reach. I then loosened two captive screws in the rear and opened the logic and power supply compartment. Not bad! Dusty for sure, but a quick vacuuming cleaned most of it away without any trouble.

First full system powerup

25-Sep-2006

Before a full system powerup, I reformed the four large filter capacitors in the power supply. I didn't know how long the system had been sitting, and had no idea about the status of these capacitors. Over the course of a couple of days, I reformed the capacitors in several stages, since they are not all rated for the same voltage.

With the capacitor reformation complete, I rigged the system for a power up. After checkin that all seven(!) fuses were in good shape, I switched on. I checked the 5V supply to the main logic PCB, and it was very solid. At that point I just went ahead and tested the keyboard and various control panel functions. Other than having a completely dried out ribbon, everything checks out.

With all of the off-line, or local mode, testing complete, I'll need to connect up to some CPU to perform a full-scale operational test.
